Beach days and rockpooling in Cornwall: with Mountain Warehouse

Beach days and rockpooling in Cornwall

We have just spent a wonderful February half term break enjoying lots of beach days and rockpooling in Cornwall. We were so lucky, the sun shone, the sky was a deep shade of blue and the sea twinkled. Hard to believe that it was February.

I have a real love for Cornwall. I love the beaches, the little coffee shops, restaurants and unique gift shops, and I love the rugged coastal walks. It is February half term, notoriously cold… so it is great to spy an opportunity to throw on some winter coats and get some salty fresh air into our lungs.

The sun was shining so we grabbed breakfast and headed out early in search of turquoise waters, shells, seals and rugged coastal views.

First stop – Godrevy.

Considered one of the most dramatic and exposed beaches of the Cornwall’s North Coast, set at the far end of St Ives Bay, Godrevy is a beautiful sandy beach. It is popular with surfers, families, walkers, nature lovers and beach lovers. It is connected to Gwithian beach at lower tides and terminates with a low rocky headland.  Godrevy beach is overlooked by the gorgeous Godrevy lighthouse, situated on an island just off the Coast.

The girls put on their lovely warm fleece-lined jackets from Mountain Warehouse and we headed out along the coastal path, where we all enjoyed those gorgeous coastal views and a spot of rock climbing.

The girls Fell 3 in 1 Jackets from Mountain Warehouse have a water resistant outer shell, and an inner fleece that kept them warm and snug during the day. I love the bright colours (easy to spot on the beach) and the packable hood and detachable inner fleece also comes in super handy. The girls love the pockets..more for the fact that they could fill them with shells, rocks and drift wood.

We spotted a couple of cheeky seals close to the rocks so we wandered across to Mutton Cove where we had been told the rest of the beautiful seals were all hiding. Much to our delight we found seals a-plenty.

Second stop – Carbis Bay Beach.

Carbis Bay Beach is one of Cornwall’s Eight award-winning blue Flag 2017 beaches. Just one mile east of St Ives, Carbis Bay Beach is an expanse of sand and an ideal beach for families. Despite it being February, those turquoise waters could have you believing that you are somewhere warm and tropical….

The little man sported his lovely warm all in one from Mountain Warehouse giving him the opportunity to run around, jump in the puddles and sit in the puddles whilst keeping warm and dry. The Spright Printed Rain suit is fleece-lined and waterproof, with a breathable membrane. I love the reflective piping, – a nice little touch to improve visibility, and the full zip made it easy to get on and off. More importantly, he remained completely dry and warm despite landing face first in the water (numerous times, I can add!)

.

Finally we headed back to The Una St Ives Resort to light the wood burner and warm up with a hot chocolate!

Pin for later
