A Brittany road trip: a campervan holiday in France

Ferry to France from the UK

We set off early and travelled from our home in Staffordshire in our campervan to catch the afternoon ferry over to Roscoff. There are so many options for a road trip in France. Campervan, motorhome, car travel….. You can also consider a rental car with Discover Cars.   As this was our first time planning a trip to France we decided to travel to Roscoff to reduce the time travelling to our first campsite. If you followed our trip, you will remember the journey down to Plymouth was a little stressful – resulting in us checking in with just minutes to spare. Lets say the M5 was to blame. Thankfully we made our ferry and we had a really relaxing and pleasant journey that involved lots of coffee, downtime and we even managed to squeeze in a film in the cinema during the crossing.

Travelling to France by Ferry

Once we arrived in France we headed off on our Brittany road trip. It was late in the evening as we set off armed with our trusty satnav, to find our first The Camping and Caravanning club campsite.

Le Letty: campsite in Brittany

Le Letty was one of the first campsites that caught our eye when we planned our road trip to Brittany. It is in the popular resort of Bénodet and the campsite has direct access to the Plage du Letty (Le Letty beach). Whenever we plan a road trip we often look for campsites that have an abundance of facilities for families. We also look at what there is to do around the campsite that is within walking distance. Packing the camper van up everyday can be tiring, so it is lovely to have options nearby that don’t involve having to move the camper on a daily basis.

One mile from Bénodet, nine miles from Quimper, and with direct access to the beach, Le Letty is a wonderful campsite for families. In all honesty, we could easily have stayed longer than the three days we had planned.

Le Letty campsite a campervan holiday in France

There is a fabulous indoor and outdoor pool complex that has a jacuzzi, water slides, artificial river and sun loungers. It rained on our first day and we spent the afternoon in the indoor pool complex where there was a great size pool, jacuzzi and rapids along with a great toddler pool and slide. The campsite has a bar, a restaurant and there is a takeaway on site that serves starters and cooked dishes including a huge choice of quiches and pizza.

The campsite has a great mini market and bakery to purchase essentials during your stay. The site has a great play area, and fitness room and there is an activities room on site to book day trips, activities, sports and the kids club. There is also a new indoor play area for 2018, too (*payable). Our girls booked in to the kids club on two days for the bouncy castle morning, and the arts and crafts…they loved it.

Tip- the kids club  is very popular so do book on arrival to save disappointment

Chatting to a number of families during our stay – Le Letty is an extremely popular campsite that sees couples and families return year after year and I can see why.

Auray

Moving on from Camping Du Letty we stopped by in Auray. Auray is a pretty town to the east of Vannes and on an estuary to the north-west corner of the Gulf of Morbihan. You can visit the main town and the historical centre of Auray, and the port town of Saint Goustan on the bank of the Auray River. It is absolutely picture perfect. We stopped by in one of the restaurants in the cobbled square to enjoy a bite to eat and sample the most amazing profiteroles I have ever tasted. Seriously I still dream about those profiteroles.

Mané-Guernehué: Brittany campsite

After a day in Auray, we packed up Otis, waved goodbye to Le Letty and moved on to our next destination. Mané Guernehue is a 5-star holiday park in south Brittany, in the heart of the Gulf of Morbihan.

Mané Guernehue is an incredible family campsite with great size pitches and an abundance of activities and facilities to keep the whole family entertained. Now let me talk to you about the facilities for the children….

The pool complex has been extended in 2018, with the opening of the new  ‘2bis Fun’ water park. The pool complex is second to none, with heated outdoor and indoor swimming pools, waterslides, paddling pools, a splash pool and spa wellness centre.

The kids absolutely loved it here. There is so much to entertain the children including a trampoline area, soft play, bouncy castle and play park. Although the kids didn’t try it here, there is also a kids club for ages 5-17.

Mané-Guernehué: Brittany campsite

During our stay here we booked pony trekking at the Riding school and the girls absolutely loved it! Meet Biscotte and Roger ..our little girl was completely taken with gentle Roger, so much so she has asked for Pony trekking lessons every day since we came home.

Top Tip – Some of the activities are pre bookable so do check on arrival to avoid disappointment during busy periods.

Mané Guernehue has a restaurant, bar and takeaway. We popped in to order takeaway pizza on our first night, but ended up staying in the restaurant to sample the food and enjoy the lovely views over the pool complex.

When we booked our road trip we were told that three days in each place just wouldn’t be long enough, and how correct this advice was. We actually moved on with a heavy heart……

Dinan

We stopped off to wander the cobbled streets of Dinan. With its half-timbered houses, picturesque streets, and charming cafes, restaurants and craft shops. We only stopped for a couple of hours to wander the cobbled streets and grab lunch, but I would definitely say that this walled town is well worth a visit.

Domaine du Logis- campsite in Brittany

Our final stop of our Road trip exploring Brittany, France. Domaine du Logis is a five-star campsite situated between Rennes, Saint-Malo, Mont-Saint-Michel and near the village of La Chapelle-aux-Filtzméens. It was ideal for us heading home from St-Malo.

It took us a little while to find Domaine du Logis (our trusty satnav let us down) and in all honesty it wouldn’t be a road trip without us getting lost at some point. Domaine du Logis is an absolutely beautiful and charming campsite, located in the grounds of a 15th century Château. The staff are so very friendly and the site oozes peace and tranquility.

There is a lovely swimming pool, paddling pool, bouncy castle play park and games area making it an ideal choice for families.

There are around 240 plots so the campsite has a real ‘exclusive’ feel. We booked a table at the restaurant on site and it is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant is located in a former outbuilding of the castle having a wonderful authentic style and traditional Breton feel. The takeaway pizzas also seemed very popular.

We ordered fresh croissants for the following morning to collect from the reception before leaving early to catch our ferry home……
