Camping La Paz REVIEW: A campsite by the beach in Spain

Camping La Paz REVIEW: A campsite by the beach in Spain

Camping in Northern Spain – Camping La Paz review

If you followed along on our recent road trip in our converted campervan, you will see that we travelled down the West coast of France stopping at Domaine du Logis in Brittany, Camping on Ile de Re, a visit to Puy du Fou theme park, Le Clarys Plage in the Vendée, and Pays Basque in South West France. We ended our camper van road trip with a short stop over at Camping La Paz in Asturias, Northern Spain. A great campsite near the beach.

La Paz is a spectacular campsite in unspoiled Asturias with views of the mountains behind and the ocean to the front …. in fact this is the most outstanding feature of this unique campsite – the spectacular ocean views and direct access to a beautiful beach.

La Paz is owned and run by Señor Sordo, and we booked this campsite through The Camping and Caravanning Club who offer a wide choice of campsites in the UK and Europe to suit all your needs and requirements.

Camping La Paz is located on a steep hill at the foot of the Picos de Europa mountains with Llanes 8 miles away and Santander 50 miles away. Bilbao is 97 miles away. This was an ideal campsite for our onward ferry travel back to the UK from Santander, taking us about an hour to travel from the campsite.

Three days camping in Spain in our VW campervan

On arrival we checked in to the campsite and the staff were friendly and spoke good English. We were then taken to our pitch and given the option between three pitches. The pitches were relatively small in size compared to other campsites that we have stayed, and staggered across several terraces and levels. We were really lucky to be shown to a great pitch with the most spectacular view of the beach and ocean. It took a while to position the camper van due to the rocky terrain. There are a total of 434 pitches, some open and some part-shaded, some with electric hook up and some without.

Camping La Paz – campsite by the beach in Spain

We had the best few days here…it is not often that you are able to pitch up practically on a beautiful beach. There were lots of motorhomes, camper vans, tents and caravans here when we stayed. We watched the most incredible sunsets from our pitch. The sea was a little rough for swimming but absolutely perfect for surfing. This is a unique campsite in Spain in a stunning location.

During high season Camping La Paz is busy and popular with campers and surf groups. We loved watching the surfers and the numerous surf lessons throughout the day. BBQs are welcome and if you have a four legged friend – dogs are also welcome too 🙂

La Paz: facilites

We were a short walk up a steep climb to the facilities block where there is a drying room, washing machines, showers/toilets.

We also tried out the bar and restaurant/takeaway, where the food was great and the staff really friendly. There is nothing better than dinner with an ocean view.

There is also Wi-fi (not at the pitches)

Camping in Asturias – Our final thoughts on our campervan stay at La Paz.

A lovely campsite with spectacular ocean views. It is a busy campsite – particularly with surfers but it still remained peaceful and family friendly, allowing us to spend quality time together soaking up the atmosphere. We were warned about the steep terrain and were therefore expecting it and the views definitely made up for this. We loved the direct access to the beach – just a short stroll of a few metres and we hit the sandy beach. The kids (husband included!) were soon off to climb the rocks and explore the many rock pools whilst I sat back and watched the most stunning sunsets. A genuinely beautiful and unique campsite – we have certainly not stayed anywhere like it before.
