Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne in Tuscany: Bookings For You

Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne in Tuscany

Driving through the country lanes, I quietly looked out of the window to take in those wonderful views. I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful rolling hills and stunning colours of the Tuscan countryside. We had been invited by Bookings For You to Tuscany and I was on my way to stay at the stunning Country Relais and Spa Le Capanne with a group of wonderful travel bloggers.  Pulling in to the driveway I think I may just have fallen in love – right there and then. Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne in Tuscany is the most stunning 100+ year old farmhouse, purchased and renovated by the Giovannini family. It is a beautiful,  rustic and country chic style villa that sits on over 100 acres of land, with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. The character and charm is evident the moment you set eyes on the property.

Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne

Villa Le Capanne sleeps a maximum of 22 people, with seven individual bedrooms and two private suites  -making it ideal for large groups and families. There is a real combination of private and shared spaces. Seven bedrooms are located in the main house, and two suites are accessible from an private exterior entrance – perfect for those wanting a little more privacy. Each room is unique in decoration and style, with beautiful country chic interiors to personalise each room. Each bedroom is equipped with an ensuite, with two additional half baths on the main floors. I loved the traditional farmhouse vibe, with exposed brick walls and beautiful wooden shutters.

The Villa

So the story goes that years ago the animals lived in the downstairs part of the farmhouse and the family lived above, kept warm by the heat generated from the animals. The two bedroom suites were storage rooms for the grain, the pool seating room homed the rabbits, and the formal dining room was home to the cows.  I just love a place that has history, holds many secrets, and has a story to tell. The property has been lovingly renovated, with authentic tuscan style, and country chic decoration. You can’t help but love all of the original features and unique touches including the traditional fireplaces, original beams and arches,  old keys hun displayed on the wall, vintage chests and beautiful original brick work.

The property has two dining areas and a cosy sitting area, and a TV DVD played and Bosch sound system, Wi-fi, air-conditioning , and not to mention the stunning jacuzzi – which I will come on to in a bit. For those with young children, highchairs and travel cots are available on request.

Relaxation

The villa is fully equipped to ensure you are able to kick back and relax during your stay. There is a jacuzzi, massage room and seating area to relax and unwind with a glass of prosecco after a day wandering the cobbled streets of nearby Volterra. Staying true to my English roots, I enjoyed a cup of English breakfast in the jacuzzi, whilst chatting away to the lovely ladies.

Outside there is a large seating area, pizza oven, BBQ grill and numerous benches dotted around to sit back and enjoy the sunshine and views. There is a large outdoor pool, and Vera and Dario are working on adding a large shelter space with a kitchen, bar and seated area over the next few months. It really is just the perfect accommodation in the most beautiful setting for large groups, families and weddings. Oh how wonderful it would be to get married here!

Hospitality

During our stay we were lucky enough to sample the wonderful Italian Cuisine on offer. I can honestly say that I ate more food than I have ever eaten and I even took away with me a few recipes and tips to try out on the little ones back at home. The wine was carefully chosen to compliment the menu.  We sampled the welcome dinner, pizza party, and and Tuscan momma dinner, which included, risotto with saffron, Peppa al Pomodoro (a traditional thick tomato soup with bread), wood fired pizzas, pork loin with salad and tomatoes and Panzanella. The food was out of this world- thanks so much to Fabiola. For desert we sampled Panforte and Panpepato and tiramisu. Not to mention the most amazing pastries on offer…….The Giovannini family also own the oldest and award winning patisserie in Volterra, and with recipes passed down through generations, it is not hard to see why the food is out of this world.

You can choose to stay on a self catering basis, however for the full authentic Tuscan experience, I can highly recommend sampling the cuisine and wonderful dinner packages that is offered by the Giovannini family. I think this is what makes it so special – the beautiful villa and the stunning countryside combined with that wonderful Tuscan hospitality provided by the Giovannini family.

Things to do and see nearby

The villa is set in 100 acres of countryside so you may not want to leave those beautiful views… but if you do- the hilltop town of Volterra is just 20 minutes away. I have to say Volterra totally stole my heart with its incredible views, winding cobbled streets, and fascinating history.

Final Thoughts…..

I totally fell in love with this stunning restored farmhouse. The Giovannini family are such a lovely family, and the most welcoming and incredible hosts.  I can honestly say I was so sad to leave. We visited the villa in March when the weather was variable and a little cold, but I can totally imagine returning in the summer months to enjoy a BBQ in the outdoor seated area and a swim in the outdoor pool. I would return with my little tribe in a heart beat.  I have the best memories of three days spent exploring the area, wandering the cobbled streets with my camera, sampling delicious authentic Tuscan cuisine, sipping on wine and dancing until the early hours with 12 wonderful fellow Travel bloggers. Oh and I am missing the Panforte.

Thank you so much to Bookings for you, and Giovannini Enterprises -Fabiola, Giancarlo, Dario and Vera for arranging our stay and making it one to remember.
