Christmas at Blithbury reindeer lodge review

Christmas at Blithbury reindeer lodge review

Last year we spent Christmas Eve at Blithbury reindeer lodge in the Staffordshire countryside. We are always on the look out for a memorable and special place to visit to add to our favourite Christmas days out. It is such a magical time of year, and for us it was made even more special by a family visit to see Santa’s special reindeer. If you are looking for top Christmas days out in Staffordshire you may find our Blithbury reindeer lodge review helpful.

Blithbury reindeer lodge: reviewed

Blithbury reindeer lodge is in Rugeley, in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside. It is a working farm and home to England’s largest working reindeer herd.  The reindeer roam freely across the 30 acre site.  During the run up to Christmas it is transformed to a winter wonderland to sprinkle a little magic and festive cheer to everyone who visits,  before the big man himself sets off on his epic sleigh ride.

I had been looking forward to this trip for half of the year. This event is popular and we booked early to secure our tickets.  We headed to the reindeer lodge on Christmas Eve, and if you are heading this way over the winter months – be warned it is extremely open, and very chilly – so wrap up warm.

On arrival we were greeted with Scandinavian wood houses, reindeer galore, and cheeky elves dotted about. You can purchase some lichen for the reindeer before heading over to the first point of call…. The Elf school.

Here Santa’s Elf was ready and waiting to sing festive songs, and generally entertain the little ones with their jolly tales and songs. Before long we were called over to Santa’s grotto where we met Santa Clause, and the little one’s were able to tell him how good they had been for all most of they year. There is an opportunity to grab a family photo, which you can purchase and collect later on in the visit. We were then guided over to the elves workshop where the little people were able to choose a super present – it sure put a smile on their faces.

Our next stop was to meet Mrs Claus by the roaring fire. On Christmas Eve, Mrs Clause was busy preparing the sledge for Mr Claus’s journey, so we were greeted by his head Elf instead, who did a great job of capturing the imagination of all who listened by telling the children a story whilst sitting on tree trunk stools dotted around the cozy fire.

Sleigh ride at Blithbury reindeer lodge

The final part of our visit was to meet the beautiful reindeer and enjoy a sleigh ride around the grounds. We booked the sleigh ride when we purchased our tickets. NOTE: Sleigh Rides are now bookable at the ticket office on the day of your visit. The girls loved the magical sleigh ride and our middle girl was rather taken with Dasher and Prancer….

Luckily there is a gorgeous vintage tearoom where you can shelter from the cold and enjoy a bite to eat or a hot chocolate.
