Manchester at Christmas

Manchester at Christmas

Another weekend, and another little family day out to enjoy.

We have recently nicknamed our  Sundays #Sundayfunday, as we are trying to steer away from the usual Sunday  tasks of homework…. piano practice… washing and ironing and enjoy some uninterrupted family time together. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the mundane tasks of organising everything for the coming week don’t you think? I am not one who embraces routine too well, so a suggestion of an impromptu Sunday daytrip filled me with great pleasure.

This weekend we visited the wonderful city of Manchester . We have some very special friends here and had  decided to catch up.

On arriving into Manchester we decided to take the children away from the crowds and visit Manchester museum of science and industry. What a wonderful place. M absolutely loved it, particularly the  interactive gallery and the part where there were a whole lot of disco lights to play around with! The best thing here is it’s totally free, -albeit a donation to the museum.

After our visit we walked down through the crowds and drank in the atmosphere of the Manchester Christmas markets. We stopped off at the Oast house to sample the coffee and mulled wine,(obviously!!) – oh and water for the kids of course! We have to stop by here every year, the teepees are wonderful and the girls get the chance to have a little crazy dance and let off some steam! The Christmas lighting here is magical and it is a welcome  escape from the hustle and bustle of the Christmas markets.

We then wandered through the streets and had a little shop in the markets before heading back home. The Manchester Christmas Market is an award winning market spread across the city at different sites and I would definitely recommend a visit if you have chance.  It was a fleeting visit for us and we were back home and in our pjs by 6.30pm. The girls loved it and had great fun with their friends, and Pip…well he slept through most of it!

Next visit I think we will stay the weekend, as there is so much to see and do, and many places to stop by and drink a coffee or two….(can you tell that Mr S likes to spend ALOT of time in cafes drinking coffee!!?)

I feel so Christmassy now, so time to put the tree up and sink a glass of mulled wine 🙂  oh how I love our #Sundayfunday
