Living in Staffordshire I know there are some really wonderful family days out locally. If you follow my blog, you will know that we love to visit The World of Wedgwood, Trentham Gardens and Trentham Monkey Forest regularly. We absolutely love to find family days out that don’t cost the earth. Another favourite of ours is a visit to Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent. Here is why …..
MIDDLEPORT POTTERY IS CURRENTLY CLOSED.
A visit to Middleport Pottery in Stoke-On-Trent
Middleport Pottery is an award winning pottery factory in the heart of Stoke on Trent.
We love the tearooms at Middleport Pottery. The tearooms (operated by Totally Delicious) are located beside the Trent and Mersey canal, and is a place to sit back, unwind with friends and family and enjoy the locally sourced and freshly prepared food. They can also accommodate guests with special dietary requirements – so do just ask!
If you fancy Afternoon Tea served on Buleighware at Middleport Factory then you can simply call to book – *Booking required.
We also love to have a look around the shops at Middleport. Middleport studios are a collection of individual creative businesses situated in a beautiful courtyard at Middleport Pottery.
- CANADIAN PINE COMPANY
- ALEX ALLDAY – CERAMICS AND SURFACE PATTERN DESIGNER

- EMMA BAILEY CERAMICS
- BURSLEM POTTERY
You can also enjoy a Middleport Factory Tour that last around 1 hour. We are yet to do the factory tour as it is only suitable for children over 8. The Factory Tour offers the chance to see Burleigh pottery being made using the same methods as in the 1880s.
The Burleigh Factory Shop is always worth a look. You can look around the world’s largest collection of Burleigh Pottery and you will also find a range of seconds in the shop. (I save this for those times that I am without the little ones, as I will be honest, it always turns me a little grey walking through here with little inquisitive fingers! )
Middleport Pottery for Families
Middleport Pottery offers a wide range of events and activities in the schools holiday including play with clay and creative crafts.
We often visit their ‘play with clay’ event in the school holidays. The event is not bookable which means you can turn up on the day. Arrive at the reception and pay for a bag of clay, and an optional bag of glittery accessories that the kids will need to make their clay creations! This is suitable for all ages and there is alway someone on hand to answer any questions or offer help and advice. Aprons are available and toilets and hand washing is nearby.
You can also take your creations home with you on the day!
