Winfields ‘Walk and Talk’ Campaign
When Winfields Outdoors recently got in touch and told me about their ‘Walk and Talk’ Campaign, I knew I had to get involved. Winfields have created their ‘Walk and Talk’ campaign to promote the wonderful benefits that getting outside can have on your mental health health and wellbeing. The campaign aims to encourage people to get outdoors, enjoy quality time together and to talk, improve positivity, happiness and also boost mental health.
Life can be ridiculously busy with work commitments, extra curricular activities, and the school and nursery dashes and it can be hard to squeeze in quality time to get together as a family. Sometimes I feel that there is so much pressure to achieve that ‘perfect’ work/life balance and because of that we try to cram so much into our time outside of work. Our weekends are often busy with school parties, swimming, work commitments and weekends away…and we often sit down on a Sunday shouting ‘where did the weekend go??’
Regardless of how busy we are, however, we do try to get out for a walk most weekends. I find it gives us the opportunity to chat about that week, the good and the bad, and to plan the week ahead. In all honesty I have come to treasure this time. Getting outdoors, even just for an hour gives me the chance to focus, and to concentrate on the here and now. It enables us to get outside and to enjoy quality family time – free from distraction. We are all aware of the benefits of getting outside, breathing in the fresh air, taking a stroll and exploring nature. Studies have shown that taking time out can help us to relax, reduce stress and can positively affect your mood.
What’s more…. walking can improve cardiovascular health – and it is totally free!
So with this in mind here are five of our favourite local family walks.
Trentham Gardens, Staffordshire
We love to visit Trentham Estate regularly and have a stroll around the lake. The girls love to spot the fairies dotted around the estate. There is a wonderful outdoor adventure playground and barefoot trail – a perfect spot for a family walk and some fresh air.
Rudyard Lake, Staffordshire
Rudyard Lake in the Staffordshire Moorlands covers some 168 acres and is over 2.5 miles long. There is an array of things to do including various walks, a boat trip and experiencing the Rudyard Steam Railway.
Stepping stones, Dovedale, Peak District
Ilam Park to the Stepping Stones in Dovedale is a popular 1.5 mile walk that ends at the wonderful Dovedale Stepping stones. Hop across the stones, absorb the scenery and enjoy that fresh air.
Delamere Forest, Cheshire
Delamere Forest is Cheshire’s largest area of woodland and a place we have visited for years. It is a wonderful area to visit, escape the crowds, explore and find some peace and tranquility.
Wolseley Centre, Staffordshire
The Wolseley Centre is Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s HQ and is a hidden gem. It is completely free to visit and is a lovely place to take a stroll, enjoy the sensory garden, wildlife life garden and explore the 26 acres of beautiful grounds …. the kids love the splash bridge, too.
