Lets face it – there is nothing that brings a bigger sparkle to my children’s eyes than a day spent in the snow…rain.. mud.. sand and water. Spending most of our weekends in the campervan, we try to get out as much as we can and enjoy the fresh air and outdoor life, whatever the weather. And let me tell you – we have spent many a weekend this year camping in some seriously miserable weather and our kids have got super wet and messy! Last month we had a wonderful road trip and experienced rain, wind and sunshine in Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. When the people at Kidunk asked us if we wanted to road-test their Kidunk kid-proof clothing – we jumped at the chance!

We were first introduced to the Kidunk team at the Just So Festival and I was instantly drawn to the display of beautiful and practical wellies and the vibrant play clothes. We are always on the look out for practical lightweight clothing that packs well for our campervan trips and it is safe to say we are sold – Kidunk have thought of everything so that you can sit back and watch your little ones enjoy that messy play, safe in the knowledge that they are dry, warm, protected and happy.
Let me tell you about the technical stuff that makes Kidunk clothing so special…
Their clothing is fleece lined, comfortable, stretchy and breathable, allowing your little one to happily jump, run, walk, climb and maybe swim 🙂 in comfort and without restriction. Our little one asks to put her play clothes on whenever she is outside – and for me, that speaks volumes.
The trousers have reinforced knees so they are hard wearing and durable for all those tree climbers out there!
The play clothes are teflon™-coated to resist water and stains – and this is always important when enjoying the great British outdoors – whatever the weather 🙂
We love the wellies! They are available in three colours – red, yellow and blue. What we love is the drawstring and toggle to help to protect from sand, mud, snow and water sneaking in to the wellies. The wellies are also fleece lined so will be wonderful for the winter months to stop those little toes from getting cold.
The trousers have a great zipped expanding leg feature with an integral welly tuck leg and elasticated ankle cuffs for added protection!
Now we love this feature… you can zip the top and the trousers together for extra warmth and protection, or you can wear the top and trousers separately. The trousers have an independent waist band too, so they stay put and there is extra room to allow for layering.
The play clothes are wonderful and vibrant so you can spot your little one from afar – this is a really great feature particularly on a busy beach, or when attending a crowded event.
And what’s really important – the clothing is machine washable at 40 degrees and can be tumble dried on low! And as I always manage to ruin clothing in the washer or dryer, I can tell you I have washed both the top and trousers and they have washed lovely.
The Verdict
Kidunk clothing is a unique concept that really helps to encourage outdoor messy play. Memories of the little ones running in to the sea fully clothed; jumping in puddles; climbing trees and eating sand – well they last forever. As a family that love spending time outdoors, we truly believe that our kids should have mud on their clothes, sand in their hair and a sparkle in their eyes… and I think the guys at Kidunk truly believe this too.
