A campervan holiday near to London with the Caravan and Motorhome Club
We have not long returned from our Summer campervan holiday – where we enjoyed a campervan road trip, exploring France and Spain. I can honestly say we are already missing campervan life. I realise that living in a campervan is not everyones cup of tea and for most people a camper van holiday would mean cramped space and limited storage – but we genuinely love the fresh air, freedom, and outdoor living. Home is where you park it after all.

The forecast for the weekend was pretty good so we packed the campervan fairly quickly on a Friday night (we are pretty good at keeping those essentials for vanlife already stored in the camper). Off we headed – M6 bound to find our Caravan and Motorhome club campsite near London. We love exploring the UK, and there really are some great UK campsites for a campervan holiday, camping or caravan holidays. Step in the Caravan and Motorhome Club with their family friendly campsites across the UK.
Commons Wood Club Site: a campsite near to London – perfect for a campervan holiday
Address: Ascots Lane, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, AL7 4HJ
If you ask my husband….Commons Wood Club site is probably one of his favourite campsites. Why? Because he is a Londoner of course with his nearest and dearest dotted around North London. Commons Wood Club Site is around 30 minutes (by train) to Central London, so it is an ideal base for exploring London and beyond. This quiet and peaceful campsite is a great option for families, and a great base to explore London and surrounding areas.
The site is a small and a great campsite for kids, with good facilities including a recently refurbished wash block that I have to say was immaculate. We had a good sized campervan pitch and chose a grass pitch that was partially shaded by high trees, with electric hook up. we were positioned on the edge of a large stretch of grass, a great area for the kids to play and run wild.
The campsite closes for the evening at 8pm, (to respect other visitors), so please be aware of this if you are travelling late in the evening or travelling a distance.
This site is lovely and quiet, with friendly staff and with good walks nearby. I really appreciate quiet friendly campsites where noise is kept to a minimum in the evenings – it is conducive to a relaxing campervan holiday with the kids.
Nearby, Stanborough Park is only about 2 miles away with a playground and crazy golf as well as a gorgeous lake where you can try your hand at
boating and fishing. There are also a number of National Trust properties within the local area. It is a great choice for a family camping holiday and it is a great campsite for kids.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club
The Caravan and Motorhome Club (formerly the Caravan Club) was founded in 1907 and is considered Europe’s biggest touring community, helping caravanners, motorhomers and campers to access over 3000 stunning locations in the UK and Europe.
The club has recently made some changes to reflect the broadening membership, to embrace diversity, and and provide a sense of community. Quite simply the Caravan and Motorhome Club welcome everyone…and not everyone wants the same adventure, so the diverse locations mean that there is something for everyone!
What’s more, the Caravan and Motorhome Club are continually reinvesting back into the club site network, by upgrading facilities including having wi-fi on every single site by the end of the year. The Caravan and Motorhome Club are also expanding worldwide to provide more places to go…and inspire more adventures.
