North Wales offers a range of beautiful campsites amidst stunning landscapes and gorgeous coasts. We have visited North Wales year after year since I was young, and have spent years exploring this incredible area. There are so many places to see and some amazing family days out in North Wales. If you are looking for the BEST campsites North Wales then look no further. Here are our tried and tested campsites in North Wales for families, and we have included dog friendly campsites in North Wales too.

Thinking of visiting North Wales? North Wales has EVERYTHING. From castles, beaches, waterfalls, lakes or mountains, North Wales has something for everyone. Visit one of the incredible beaches to SUP paddleboard, take on the worlds fastest zipline, try your hand at surfing or discover the characterful market towns and picturesque seaside resorts.

North Wales Camping

Now just a word of warning – the weather can be unpredictable. Remember to pack warm clothes, layers, and bring the waterproofs.

We love North Wales whatever the weather, and on a beautiful warm sunny day, it can be the most magical place in the world. We love exploring the Llyn Peninsula with kids and love nothing more than a campsite with a Sea view! Just to remember the sun doesn’t always shine, so remember to pack for all weather!

Glamping in North Wales

Camping in the UK really is wonderful all year round, but if camping is really not your thing then glamping holidays are a fabulous alternative. Accommodation is often well insulated and heated, and is fully equipped for everything you need for your stay. Maybe you would like to try the glamping pods at Snowdonia Adventure Parc Or glamping at the Slate caverns? Alternatively you may love Plas Weunydd Boutique Hotel in Snowdonia

Nestled on the shores of Llyn Gwynant, this campsite offers breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. It’s an ideal base for exploring Snowdon and the surrounding hiking trails.

Best campsites in North Wales - Llyn Gwynant

If you are looking for lakeside camping in Snowdonia then this campsite is definitely for you. Llyn Gwynant is a campsite in the heart of Snowdonia National Park.  Campers are welcome to launch boats, a stand up paddleboard (you can read our full paddleboard review here), kayak or canoe in the Llyn Gwynant lake. You can also swim in the lake and river. 

The campsite is one of our favourite campsites with access to water for our stand up paddleboard. and the lakeside pitches are a winner.

EHU available

The Llyn Gwnant Siop is the campsite shop beside reception selling food items, beer and useful things you might have forgotten. You can also hire boats, kayaks and paddleaboards.

This campsite is dog friendly.

Pricing is dependant on whether you’re camping in a tent, camper or motorhome. Camping is charged per person, per night, and is paid for in advance. Do check the website for prices.

Shell Island Campsite, Shell Island Llanbedr,
Gwynedd, North Wales,

Shell Island Campsite: Located near Harlech, Shell Island is a vast campsite with stunning views of the coastline and Snowdonia National Park. It offers various camping areas, including dunes, fields, and beachfront pitches.

There is aproximately 300 acres of land allocated to camping making Shell island one of the biggest campsites in the UK. Pitches are not allocated here, so you can explore and select your pitch to suit your needs…from being right next to the beach or hidden away in the trees, there is a pitch for everyone!

You can have fires at Shell Island as long as they are raised off the ground in something that will catch the ashes, so it does not burn the grass. You can also have them on the beach (please do leave no trace!)

Please note there is no EHU available. Caravans are not accepted. And do check the tide times for a safe crossing to Shell Island

Dogs are allowed here.

Pricing are per person per night starting from £10.50 per night per adult and £5.25 per night for children aged 3-15. Do check the website for prices.

Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite, Snowdonia, North Wales

If you are looking for a unique camping experience in Snowdonia, Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite is a family friendly campsite nestled at the foot of the rugged Rhinog mountain range and just a couple of miles from golden sandy beaches.

The campsite is a lovely secluded campsite with direct access to the waterfalls and river. The pitch sizes are big, with camping available on seven acres of flat ground. No matter where you pitch you will hear the therapeutic sounds of the waterfalls. Dogs are allowed here and also the campsite does allow campfires.

EHU is available.

There is a shop that sells minimal essentials, offers phone charging and ice creams. The campsite does not allow music at any time.

Crugan Farm Llanbedrog, North Wales

Llanbedrog beach

Crugan Farm Touring Site is a lovely campsite and offers an ideal base for exploring the Llŷn Peninsula.

The campsite offers flat hardstanding pitches that are spacious and suitable for touring caravans, campervans and motorhomes with access to metered mains electricity and mains water supply.

The campsite is positioned between Abersoch and Pwllheli. The campsite is a short stroll to Llanbedrog beach, perfect for taking the paddleboards. There is a modern toilet block and washing up area, free WiFI across the campsite and an enclose children’s play area.

The campsite and beach are both dog friendly too.

Pant Yr Onnen (Bala Camping, North Wales

Pant-Yr-Onnen is a family friendly lakeside campsite on the Southern shores of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) and offers camping near to Bala.

Another one of our favourite campsites with access to water for the paddleboard – This campsite has direct access to the Bala Lake to launch SUP, inflatable kayak, canoe, or try out wild swimming or sailing.

PANT YR ONNEN (BALA CAMPING), campsites in North Wales

This campsite is a picturesque lakeside campsite nestled on the Southern shores of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), and situated near to the town of Bala.

Electric Hook Up available

The campsite is family friendly and dog friendly. Small, controlled Campfires are permitted on the gravel on the foreshore of the lake, close to the water’s edge.

Tyddyn Isaf, Anglesey

Tyddyn Isaf is a favourite campsite of ours and we have been back over the last two years. Listed as one of our favourite coast campsites in the UK – this family friendly campsite is well maintained and offers direct beach access to Lligwy Beach.

Then campsite and beach is dog friendly and perfect for water sports.

Abbey Farm Campsite, Llangollen, North Wales

Abbey Farm is a working farm owned set in the rolling hills of the North Wales countryside, just one mile outside of the picturesque town of Llangollen, and within 1 1/2 hours of the whole of North Wales and snowdonia’s main tourist attractions.

The camping field is located just beside the Abbey ruins, and a small brook that ruins across the back of the field providing a peaceful setting and a perfect place for little wellies to enjoy!

EHU pitches available, including grass pitches or hard standing options.

Aberafon campsite, Caernarfon, Gwynedd

Aberafon is a popular camping and caravan site in North Wales on the Llyn Peninsula. The campsite adjoins a private beach and there is direct access for boat launching. There are 15 acres of valley grounds and 5 acres of which are sheltered level pitches.

EHU is available.

This campsite is family friendly and dog friendly.

The campsite is at the foot of the mountain (Gyrn Gosh) and the hamlet of Gyro Loch is on th A499 and lies between 10 miles south of Caernarfon and 9 miles north of Pwllheli.
