We have had our campervan for our family of five for nearly 12 years, and have visited Scotland in our campervan time and time again over the years. Whether you are planning to head to the remote islands such as the Outer Hebrides, visit the Vibrant Capital City of Edinburgh, parkup on an incredible coastal campsite or pitch up on a campsite with direct access to water, you will find a place that is just perfect for you. Scotland is certainly a place for adventurous families and the perfect destination for camping, and don’t get me started on the stunning beaches! Camusdarach Campsite is the perfect location to explore the West coast of Scotland, located between Arisaig and Mallaig. This family-run campsite has 30 great sized pitches, 3 Glamping Pods and 2 Self-Catering Apartments, and has access to three beautiful white sandy beaches – perfect for swimming and paddleboarding (We loved ths campsite so much and it is listed in our best campsites for paddleboarding post due to its direct access to water). The sunsets here are incredible too.

We stayed Croft No 2 Campsite on the island of Barra during our Outer Hebrides road trip. This gorgeous campsite offers great camping on the Outer Hebrides. It is a small, family run campsite located just 100 meters from a gorgeous white sandy beach and offering a perfect base to explore the Island of Barra.

Thurston Manor is another campsite that we visited in the early days our our vanlife and loved the location. The campsite is nestled at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills in Scotland, near the East Lothian coastline. It is set in 176 acres of countryside and is just under an hour’s drive from Edinburgh.

4. Sunnyside Croft and Touring Site, Arisaig

Sunnyside Croft and Touring site is a family run campsite nestled on the Wes coast between Arisaig and Morar. The site is one of the campsites we stayed on our first ever Scotland road trip and we loved it. It offers white sandy beaches, and is a quiet and peaceful family friendly site – perfect to pitch up, relax and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings.

5. Kinloch Campsite, Isle of Skye

We stayed at Kinloch Campsite during our Scotland road trip last year, when we travelled from Uist to Skye. Kinloch is a friendly family-run campsite set on the shores of Loch Dunvegan, in the north west of the Isle of Skye. We love a waterfront campsite and this campsite has easy access to the local village and offers a perfect base to explore the Isle of Skye.

If you are looking for a gorgeous campsite on Scotland’s West Coast that is near to Oban ferry port then North Ledaig Caravan Park is for you. We stayed here before hopping on the ferry to the Island of Barra and could have easily stayed for longer.
North Ledaig is a 30-acre park that is situated with direct access to a 2 mile sand and shingle beach on Ardmucknish Bay. There are some great pitches overlooking the beach with a panoramic view of the Isle of Mull. These are on a first come first reserved basis so be quick if you want to book one of these. It is also perfect for walks, biking and with direct access to water – great for paddleboarding, boats and swimming.

7. Sango Sands, Durness Scotland

If you fancy camping on the cliff top, Sango Sands Oasis Camping and Caravan site provides incredible sea views on the North West of Scotland. This campsite is a perfect place to pitch up if you are road tripping the North Coast 500. The campsite is normally open from April to the end of October, and is dog friendly and family friendly and offers incredible beach camping in Scotland.

8. Clachtoll Beach Campsite

Clachtoll beach campsite is situated on the Stoer peninsula looking across the sea to Lewis, Harris and Skye. It is a quiet family run touring caravan and camping site in Sutherland, in the North West of Scotland.

We loved this lakeside campsite and it had to be added to our list of best campsites in Scotland. Luss Campsite is situated on the shores of Loch Ness with a short walk to Luss village.

10. Balranald Hebridean Holidays Campsite, Uist

We absolutely loved our stay in Uist as part of our Outer Hebrides Road trip. This campsite is located in the heart of the RSPB’s Balranald Nature Reserve only metres from a beautiful sandy beach on the west coast of North Uist. It has hard standing pitches with electric hook-up for motorhomes/caravans and grass pitches for tents and campervans, there is also a glamping pod too. Uist has some of the most beautiful beaches that we have seen in the UK.

11. Shore Caravan Site Achmelvich
Shore Caravan Site in Achmelvich is situated right next to Achmelvich Bay, which has been awarded as one of the best beaches in Britain. This campsite has 20 electric points available and does not have hard standing pitches – you are free to park at your own pitch. There is an on-site shop and an on-site Chip Shop.
