Eurocamp in the Dordogne: St Avit Loisirs REVIEW

Eurocamp in the Dordogne: St Avit Loisirs REVIEW

If you are looking to at family friendly places to stay in the Dordogne then look no further. We spent a week with Eurocamp exploring the Dordogne. This parc is also listed in our 10 of the BEST Eurocamp parcs in France. Here is our St Avit Loisirs review.

EUROCAMP DORDOGNE, FRANCE

I have so many fond memories of our childhood Eurocamp holidays, spent in the South of France with my family. I vividly remember the long journey, softened by the Eurocamp activity pack that kept us occupied for hours. I remember long days spent on the beach, BBQs on those beautiful warm, Summer evenings and walks to the shop for fresh croissants in the mornings. I really cherish those memories.

We visited France last year on a road trip exploring Brittany and absolutely loved it. The roads are lovely to drive on and I found the ferry travel really quite relaxing and stress free. So this year we thought we would explore a little more of France and head to the Dordogne region. We were not disappointed – there are so many beautiful towns and villages to explore near to our Eurocamp Saint Avit Loisirs parc.

Having said that, there was so much to do for families on the parc, you really don’t need to venture off site if you don’t want to. Read on for our St. Avit Loisirs Review with Eurocamp Dordogne

St Avit Loisirs, Le Bugue, Dordogne

St Avit Loisirs, Le Bugue, Dordogne

After many a night looking through all the Eurocamp parts in France, we decided on St Avit Loisirs. Why? It is a relatively big parc with so much to do for the children. I think the water park was by far the kids favourites place to hang out, with a choice of an indoor pool, outdoor pools, a ‘crazy river’ ride, a 65m water slide and paddling pools and a splash pool for the little ones. There seemed to be a huge supply of sunbeds around the pool with good views of the pool and slides.

St. Avit Loisirs facilities

St. Avit Loisirs is a lovely parc in a great location. The parc offers a total of four pool complexes and an on-site restaurant and bar terrace. There are loads of family friendly activities including tennis, mini golf and quad biking. There is also cycle hire available, a lovely kids play area, and Eurocamp kids clubs – although we didn’t try these out as the children just wanted to hit the pool every day!

Another nice feature is the onsite supermarket that is well stocked with everything you may need and there is a takeaway service with a good choice of pizzas, salads, burgers, nuggets and chips.

This parc has so much on offer with the variety of kids clubs, waterparks and entertainment – for us with children of varied ages, it was a good choice.

Aspect holiday home, Eurocamp Dordogne

Our  3 bed, 1 bathroom Aspect mobile home had everything we needed for our week holiday. There is a decent sized living area with facing sofas and a table. Air-conditioning is an added bonus when the temperature hit 34 degrees. The girls had bunk beds in the second bedroom, and the third bedroom had a single bed and the travel cot was up and waiting for us. Linen can be hired beforehand so that everything is ready for you on arrival.

The kitchen was well equipped with a coffee machine, kettle, dishwasher and toaster along with all the usual kitchen utensils and crockery.

Outside the covered decking area was a real feature that actually doubled the living space. This was my favourite feature with the outdoor dining set and two sun loungers  overlooking rolling hills, a lovely spot to watch the sunsets with a glass of vino in an evening, whilst the kids played out on the grass area with their besties.

How to get there from the UK

We opted for the Portsmouth to Caen crossing, particularly because we were heading to Sussex for the Elderflower Fields Festival the weekend before, so Portmsouth seemed like the perfect option.  We chose the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, meaning we managed to get a little bit of rest and a few hours sleep, plus the early start meant that we made it to our Eurocamp holiday parc by late afternoon even with the numerous stops. Despite the long journey it was still doable with young kids…it took us about 8 hours.

Another option is the Dover to Calais crossing which is a shorter crossing,  but just bear in mind this means a slightly longer drive down to the Dordogne.

Our friends chose to fly in to Bergerac and hire a car from there and found this option stress free and pleasant.

Things to see and do near St Avit loisirs, Le Bugue

I would definitely recommend a car if you are staying at St Avit Loisirs as there are so many beautiful things to see and do in Dordogne. The nearest town is Le Bugue and this is around 8km away. Here you will find a large supermarket. We also made our way to Limeuil which is an absolutely beautiful village about 10-15 minutes away;  we found a lovely pebble river beach to sit and have a picnic and Les Jardins Panoramiques de Limeuil is well worth a visit.

Beynac and Sarlat are a little further drive away, but both equally beautiful.
