  • Travelling with Kids

I have always loved instagram. I love the beautifully edited tiny squares of daily life, home interiors and travel. I have a really passion for photography, not that I would ever profess to being particularly good at it, I still love to capture our travel and outdoor life. It has almost become a kind of diary for us, documenting our travel, road trips and journeys with three kids in tow. You can find out more and follow me here. I wanted to put together a collection of some of my most favourite UK Family travel bloggers over on Instagram. These accounts are a constant inspiration to me, and I now have an ever growing bucket list full of beautiful places to visit with our children. Here are a few of my favourites Family Travel Bloggers to follow on Instagram ……

Mummy Travels

Beaches worldwide are a favourite but Cathy and her daughter love to chase blue skies around the world. From cities to countryside to coast, Cathy’s feed is full of stunning bright colours and a huge amount of travel inspiration. Here recent trip to Corsica has me in love!

Would you guess where this was from the colour of the sea? Finishing a lovely chilled out stay on the Isle of Wight with this view of Totland Bay after lunch practically on the beach, and sandcastle building and paddling at Freshwater Bay this morning. Still feeling relaxed even after braving the A3 and M25 home. And despite lots of new discoveries, I *still* have more places I want to visit (or revisit) next time we go back. Hmmm… well we don’t have plans yet for next weekend 😉

Dais Like These

My fellow Monday Escapes host – Daisy has three kids and her IG grid is full of the most beautiful pictures of them enjoying anything from a local day out to a trip of a lifetime, and everything else in between! Throw in a pretty destination shot or two, and you have a whole host of family travel inspiration. I loved following Daisy’s recent trip to France where her boys got to experience school in France!

Jetlag working in our favour this morning with the top deck of Top of the Rock nearly to ourselves and zero queues for the lifts. We used our mobile New York #CityPASS which was super easy – they just scanned the QR code on my phone and printed off a paper ticket, and again no queuing!

Travelynn Family

Jenny and her family aim to push the boundaires of family travel and dispel the myth that adventure needs to wait until the kids are older (her boys are aged 3 and 4). On her grid find inspiration from their epic African roadtrip and adventures through Asia (particuarly India). They have recently found home in the beautiful Peak District and I love to see their outdoor adventures and family walks. Here feed forever makes me smile.

Urquhart Castle is in a fairytale location, on the banks of Loch Ness. But the beautiful ruins hide a bloody past. On our Rebellion Tour with Loch Ness by Jacobite, we learned how the castle saw battles between Scots and English, Royalists and Jacobites. You’d never have guessed that from the peaceful, beautiful views, though. Our tour gave us a two-hour window to explore the towers, dungeons and grassy banks of the castle before we sailed back to Dochgarroch Lock. The time just flew by. #ad #presstrip . . . . . #urquhartcastle #lochness #MoreThanAMonster #scotland #visitscotland #lovescotland #scotlandisnow #YOYP2018 #travel #familytravel #guardiantravelsnaps #bbctravel #culturetrip #ukexplore #ukftb #ftb100 #wanderlust #travelmore #highlands #scottishhighlands #familytravelblogger #parentbloggersuk #snaphappybritmums #traveltheworld #culturedkids #travelwithkids #travelblogger #historicscotland

Tin box Traveller

One of the first family travel blogs I found over on Instagram I have followed her ever since -Claire fills her grid with moments captured during her travels and family adventures in the UK and Europe. There’s also a good helping of fun at home in goregous Devon in the South West of England. The cheeky smiles of her two daughters, aged five and three feature a lot, but Claire is also partial to an epic view.

Do you get the post holiday blues? We’ve only been back in the UK a few days and I’m already longing for Greek island idylls like this gorgeous harbour at Heronissis on the island of Sifnos. We spent hours here – reading on the beach, taking photos and eating a seafood lunch overlooking the water. It all seems a long time ago now. I haven’t picked up a book since I finished Arundhati Roy’s brilliant new novel in the airport departure lounge. I’ve spent the last few days shopping for new school uniforms, pencil cases and school shoes and trying to get two weeks of holiday washing dry in between the rain showers. On the plus side, one of the boys has decided he needs to make a Death by Chocolate cake so provided he doesn’t cause too much destruction in the kitchen, the day should end well… @youareheresifnos @visitgreecegr @discover.greece @cyclades_islands @beautifulcyclades #ttot

How amazing is this view?! It’s been a while since we visited a castle. 😍 Tantallon is stunning and this boy of mine was loving the binoculars that kids get in a special pack to borrow. Globetotting

Katja, her three children (3, 8 and 11) and her Instgram-shy husband have recently returned to the UK after nearly 12 years living abroad (Australia, India and Mexico). She’s just as likely to share trips from far-flung lands as she is days out in London and is a firm believer that you can – and should! – take your kids everywhere.

T I G H T R O P E  One of our favourite performances at the @JustSoFestival was the high wire act from the #BulziniFamily. • This high wire walk took place on the Saturday night in front of the main house on the Rode Hall Estate and was spectacular! They walked forwards, backwards, cycled and more across the high wire, all without a safety net! 😱 • The Bulzini Family also offered tightrope workshops over the course of the three day festival. Fortunately this tightrope was a little closer to the ground 😥😂 . . . . #lovelysquares #ukblogger #gofurther #loveyourtimetogether #snaphappybritmums #fivestarkids #globetottingkids #discovertheworld #kidsunplugged #tmom #ftb100 #tbin #familytravel #travelwithkids #takeyourkidseverywhere #adventurekids #explorekids #lpkids #NGkids #Passportkids #familytrip #familytraveltribe #tbscommunity #havekidswilltravel #familymemories #kidswhotravel #ukftb #JustSoFestival #Festivals

Great day out today with friends at @sundown.adventureland . I only heard of this place recently despite it being 50 years old! (and it’s only 50 minutes from where I live.) It’s a theme park for under 10’s which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Each area has a theme from the Wild West, to Robin Hood, Toy Town, Pirates, Fairytales and so much more (including amazing play areas!) We paid for this ourselves and thought it was pretty good value. The new Safari drive (kids get to drive their own car with simple stop and go pedals) was a huge hit as was the fairytale village. Lots of interactive things to do which made familiar tales come alive! We’re on a cruise boat around the Maddalena archipelago today. It’s a trip organised by Baia dei Mori, our @neilsonholidays resort in Sardinia. We had a look round the pretty harbour town of La Maddalena earlier before sailing to the stunning Spargi. Spargi is an Italian island situated in the strait of Bonifacio between Sardinia and Corsica. There are 4 small bays in Spargi, all with beautiful soft sand and clear turquoise waters filled with shoals of fish. All 3 of us got to swim here. It was just heavenly especially being surrounded by interesting rock formations and caves with the bright blue skies above us #relaxashardasyoulike 🐠🐠🐠

We’ve arrived in the Lofoten Islands #Norway and they’ve taken a bit of an effort to get to. Two flights, an overnight in Bodø, where we picked up a hire car, then a 3.5 hour ferry to the islands. Yay 😁! .. .. The Lofoten Islands are inside the Arctic Circle at the 68th and 69th parallel. The word Lofoten means ‘foot of the lynx’ but I don’t know where that comes from yet! .. .. The Lofoten Islands are known for their spectacular scenery, dramatic mountains and peaks rising from the sea and unspoilt beaches. 🚐Vanlife with kids 🚐

I often get messages asking “where do you all sleep” and where did your toddler or baby sleep in the camper ?

We bought our #t5 when our eldest was just 2, and we have had to adapt as our family has grown. We didn’t have the roof converted until much later so we tried a fair few sleeping options!

I thought It might be helpful if I listed all of the sleeping options we have tried in our vwT5 because I often get questions about sleeping options with young kids.

⭐️Our new born baby slept in a sleepyhead in the camper as it was easily transportable and worked as crib.

⭐️ We then found a deluxe travel cot that fit perfectly at the base of our rib bed and this worked from about 6 months

⭐️We then moved on to a toddler inflatable air bed placed again at the bottom of our bed. We found the toddler beds fit perfectly across the width of the van

⭐️moving on we purchased a hammock that fitted over just the driver and passenger seat and this worked great from about 3+

⭐️ Finally as our family grew... We had our pop top roof added and the children slept well in the roof. We had a safety net fitted to the opening of the roof and this allowed all our children to sleep in the roof safely and gave us some peace of mind - particularly as our son was young.

I’ve linked my post in my stories but do let me know if you have tried any other options that work for young children, particularly if you don’t have an elevating roof! Always here if I can help with anything or if you have any questions.

Just popping on to wish all of you a Happy New Year 💕

Here we are .... Still hanging out in tier 4, (but hey I have three lovely days off 🤩) we have all got this🙌🏻

For now I’m going to keep dreaming, planning, doing a bit of vanlife shopping and redesigning our campervan 😂 (so if any of you lovely vanlife peeps can share and tag me in a picture of your interiors I would be eternally grateful).

Hey I may even get this dissertation done 🤣

If it’s okay I’ll keep sharing the little bits in between, and of course our van life tips and tricks over the new year, until we can explore once again.

Thanks for sticking with us - happy new year to my faves, lots of love and stay safe

🌲 And that’s me signing off for Christmas. 🌲

Let’s hope 2021 brings some sunshine, plans, adventures and a glimmer of hope.

To all my lovely friends, family and wonderful vanlife peeps, thanks so much for all the love and support this year.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and New year from Otis and Us xxx

Ad / We are still loving our @wickey climbing frame, and so grateful to have this wonderful play area in our garden for the kids since the lockdown number two.

It’s my last day of annual leave today. So we have spent the afternoon adding a few fairy lights to the MultiFlyer climbing frame - sprinkling a bit of magic and festive cheer out in the garden....

Moving on to the the camper next :) it definitely needs some fairy lights and a tree - Don’t you think? 🌲

If this year has taught us anything, it’s defini If this year has taught us anything, it’s definitely to not take anything for granted. To take each day as it comes and to enjoy the simple things in life, finding joy in those ordinary moments.

I don’t need reminding of this but family and friends are everything. As are good old hugs. (I miss hugs!) And plans. Blooming love a plan. 😍

So ill keep on bobbing on here if that’s okay? I’ll keep planning, writing about our campervan adventures and sharing our van life love and outdoor life. Because we have to have hope and we have to keep dreaming....

Hope you are all doing okay, sending a virtual hug if you need one this weekend. My inbox is ALWAYS open, always.

4 years blogging!! Wowzers that has flown by!!

I’ve had lots of new followers lately so thought I would pop on and say hello and tell you a little bit about us.

I’m Katy and I am behind Otis and us travel blog. I started the blog during my maternity leave - really because I love taking photos and wanted a place that the kids can look back on and to document our van life adventures. I am a full time specialist nurse and also currently working on an MSc. I am a whirlwind and life is definitely jam packed but I wouldn’t have it any other way :)

We love our beautiful T5!! We have made so many memories and taken some wonderful roadtrips over the years. We haven’t managed to get out in the van much this year, but hey I’ve still been dreaming ... hopefully next year🤞🏻🤞🏻

We have three free spirited kiddies who love nothing more than a road trip, sleeping in the poptop roof, exploring, beach life and toasting marshmallows.

Mr Otis and Us, what can I say? The chilled one who has so much patience😆. He drives the many miles, lives on coffee and never ever says no to my crazy road trips and ideas.

So here we are - the Otis and Us tribe, popping on to say hi.

Thank you so much for following along, for all your interaction and love. It means the world. I love to hear from you all, every message and every comment. Thank you 🙏🏻

Hope you will stay with us for 2021 ,

Stay safe

Katy xx 🌈
