If you were to search the internet for Glamping North Yorkshire – you will stumble across the magical glamping village Camp Katur.
I am sitting outside on the balcony of our Safari tent at Camp Katur in Yorkshire. The sun is setting and the fairy lights are twinkling. The only sound I can hear is the sound of the fire pit, coughing and spluttering in the breeze. We had arrived at Camp Katur for a few days glamping in a safari tent, and I already knew it would give us with some super special memories. Here we share our review of our stay in a safari tent at Camp Katur Glamping North Yorkshire

Glamping North Yorkshire
Camp Katur, Glamping Yorkshire
Camp Katur is a magical little “off grid” glamping villlage, in North Yorkshire, located just 10 minutes off the A1 near Bedale, North Yorkshire and less than an hour from exploring the Yorkshire Dales
Camp Katur Accomodation
This site was really something special, with an accommodation choice to suit everyone. Choose from trendy Geodomes, spacious safari tents, picture perfect bell tents, unique teepees or magical hobbit pods…there are so many wonderful and unique accommodation choices to suit all your needs. We were staying in a safari tent, perfect for our family of five as it easily slept 6-8.
Safari tents at Camp Katur
Our safari tent was wonderful. It was spacious and provided ample living space for our family of five. The safari tent had 2 bunk beds, a double size bed and a further double cabin bed. Travel cots were available on request.
The tent was beautifully furnished with a corner sofa, and a large table to sit 8. There was a well equipped kitchen area with a gas stove provided. Outside there was a decked area and a bench set, with a fire pit and outdoor stove. We just needed to bring our bedding, but this was available if required at an additional cost. Outside on the decked area was an outdoor shower, toilet and sink, so you don’t need to head across the field in the early hours of the morning to the communal shower blocks.
The safari tents were all positioned just in front of the woodland area, and looked out to a large field, providing you with a real sense of space. The girls found the rope swing in front of our safari tent, and spent hours outside with their new friends from the neighbouring tents.
As I mentioned before, Camp Katur is “off grid”. This simply means it does not reply on local and public utilities especially the electric supply. All lighting is provided by torch, candles and solar power and there were lots of candles and lanterns dotted around the safari tent, but it is a good idea to pack an additional torch.
Glamping with a hot tub
To the left of our safari tent was the Camp Katur Eco Spa. The Camp Katur Eco spa is set on the edge of the woodland with a wood burning hot tub and sauna. Bookings could be made prior to our stay or by contacting the wardens on site. For full prices for the Eco Spa head over to Camp Katur online .
Camp Katur- UK glamping with kids
One of the reasons that I love glamping with kids, is that the kids spend hours in the fresh air, often with bare feet, windswept hair and no electronic devices. They use their imagination to play and that is a wonderful thing. I love that glamping takes them away from the screens and I love sitting on a bench watching them spend hours with balls, twigs and rocks, tree swings, climbing and basically enjoying time together in the fresh air.
At Camp Katur there was a lovely play area for the kids, with loads of different swings dotted around in the trees. From a surfboard, to a rocking horse…it is a really magical space with something for all ages.
There was also a lovely play area with a volleyball net, toy shed, playhouses and a worry tree!

Make a wish 💫 “A fairy’s magic changes from red to green – gone are your worries never to be seen “ 🌟 🌟 🌟 Hidden in the woods we found rope swings, wooden houses, a toy den and a little bit of fairy magic at @camp_katur (Ad- review stay). We had to visit this special worry tree everyday, isn’t it such a beautiful idea ? . Have a super weekend! Camp Hill Estate
You don’t have to go too far for adventure here. A short walk down the lane you will find the Camp Hill Estate. Camp Hill Estate is a separate independent business to Camp Katur. Here you will find the Woodland Kingdom, – an abundance of wooden playhouses, a woodland castle, zip wire and assault course. We spent a lovely few hours with the kids here and visited each day. The kids loved the freedom that comes with Camp Katur, and on one of our days here, we were lucky enough to have the Woodland Kingdom all to ourselves.
For the older kids there are plenty of activities that come with an additional charge including Quad Biking, Segways, Foot golf and High Ropes. The activities are quite pricey but great for the older kids, I saw lots of happy faces on the quad bikes during our stay!
What do you need to bring to Camp Katur?
We packed bedding for our stay in the safari tent (there is an option to arrange to hire bedding at an additional cost prior to your stay). We bought plenty of food and drink, as the nearest shop is in Bedale (around 5 miles away). Don’t forget the marshmallows for toasting on the fire pit (we forgot marshmallows but our lovely neighbours gave us some!)!
Remember to pack plenty of warm clothes, good footwear, (wellies!) and don’t forget a decent torch or lantern.
The Geodomes and the safari tents both have their own cooking facilities so we didn’t need to bring cutlery or crockery or a gas stove.
Glamping in Yorkshire: Final thoughts on our stay at Camp Katur
What a magical place to stay. We were so lucky and the weather was great during our trip meaning it was lovely to be able to spend so much time together outdoors. We didn’t venture off site to explore the area as we genuinely felt that we didn’t need to…there is so much to do for the kids and we enjoyed the opportunity to sit back and relax. I say this so much, but I genuinely love glamping and I love to find UK glamping sites that are unique and family friendly. Our couple of nights glamping in Yorkshire at Camp Katur was just as we had hoped…peaceful…relaxing…fun and memorable.
Thank you for having us Camp Katur!
