Review: Sleeping Beauty at the Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent

2019 Regent Theatre Panto is a huge success full of fun, laughter and marvellous costumes!

It was the opening night of Sleeping Beauty at the Regent Theatre, and as always it did not disappoint. We came out of the theatre with huge smiles and a warm fuzzy feeling in our tummies. I had mascara smudged under my eyes from laughing so much…. What a show, and what a way to kickstart the Christmas celebrations for 2019!!!!

Last year was our first pantomime and we absolutely loved it, so I had high expectations for 2019 Regent Theatre Christmas panto. This years pantomime at the Regent Theatre is Sleeping Beauty, and what wonderful start to the festive season.

Returning to the stage is Stoke-on-Trent’s very own… Jonathan Wilkes who plays Muddles, and Christian Patterson who plays Fanny the Nanny. They are an incredible duo, who together, bring a whole lot of happiness and smiles to everyone who sits in the audience. Jonathan Wilkes and Christian Patterson are joined once again by Delme Thomas who plays Chi-Chi (the Spirit of Stoke), and Kai Owen who plays King Cyril. Sleeping Beauty is played by the very talented and beautiful Naomi Slights and finally Vivien Parry is  the wicked fairy Carabosse … and let me tell you -what a fabulous baddy she is!

The show is packed full of cheeky innuendos, making every adult in the house roar with laughter but equally there is also lots for the younger generation to make them shout, giggle and beam!

The show felt like a family affair, a party just for Stokies and Christian Patterson and Jonathan Wilkes have a real way of building a wonderful relationship with the audience, it is evident that everyone seems to love them and they bring a whole lot of happiness and sparkle to Stoke-on-Trent over Christmas.

Without giving too much away, the Ensemble and Babes are bought to you by the Wilkes Academy of Performing Arts, and they are absolutely wonderful. The outfits are sparkling and colourful and the backdrops equally amazing, my son was absolutely mesmerised by the monster.

I don’t want to spoil the suprises, but what I will say is this show is an absolute must-see at Christmas time. You won’t be disappointed !

Sleeping Beauty runs at Hanley’s Regent theatre until Sunday, January 5, 2020.
