I am always on the look out for items that fold small or pack well for van life. We are a family of five in a T5 campervan, and as you can imagine, space can be tight. I usually like to pack our clothes in packing pods to try to keep the holiday clothes organised (in a fashion) so bulky towels take up a lot of space. I was so happy when Sorbet got in touch recently and sent us five wonderful hammam towels ahead of our Summer road trip. We were travelling through France and ending our trip in Spain, so these wonderful hamman towels came in very useful indeed. I rolled them up to pack them, and I could easily fit five towels in a beach bag, along with hats, suncream and other essential items. I also always pack a small bag for our overnight ferry travel, so it was lovely to be able to pack towels and toiletries ahead of our trip.
So .. What are Hammam towels?
Hammam towels are otherwise known as fouta or peshtemal towels, and they really are the perfect travel towel. The traditional turkish towels are made from 100% cotton and are super absorbent, extremely lightweight and versatile.
Uses for a Hammam towel
So since discovering the hammam towels I am amazed at how versatile they are. These turkish cotton towels can be used as a sarong, a beach towel, a blanket, tablecloth or a towel around the home.
We have so far taken them on our campervan road trip, and in my hand luggage rolled up on a weekend away. We have taken them to Elderflower Fields Festival and Timber Festival where they also doubled up as a picnic rug.
The thing I love is how absorbent they are, yet they are lightweight, fast drying, and super compact – perfect for travel, and definitely an essential item to pack for a festival with kids or day trip!

How to wash a peshtemal or Hammam towel
These versatile turkish towels wash lovely. Sorbet advise that the hammam towels are colourfast and can be washed at 40 degrees. It is always good to wash like colours together. Hanging out to dry works a treat and they do dry really quickly. You can always use a warm iron (if available) to make them look even more beautiful!

We are totally converted. These turkish towels are incredibly useful, versatile and not to mention striking. They have proved perfect for our campervan travels and I love that we can use them as a wrap, cover up and picnic rug as well as a towel.
