Snowdonia campsite: Llyn Gwynant campsite review
We are a family of five and love nothing more than exploring in our converted Vw T5 camper. You may be wondering how we manage to squeeze a family of five in a VW T5 campervan – I don’t have all the answers but somehow we manage (Clever storage ideas and packing cubes are definitely our secret to organisation in a small space)! Not forgetting that our golden retriever dog loves vanlife too.
We tend to book campsites on our road trips, mostly because with three children and a dog it is easier and we like to have a base. We love a campsite with direct access to water as it means that we can swim, use our stand up paddleboard (read our full review here) or kayak, and we don’t have to move our camper for a day out on the water.
Let me tell you about Llyn Gwynant campsite in Snowdonia. This is one of our favourite family friendly campsites in North Wales and this campsite is dog friendly too.
The campsite has direct access to the lake, and there are gorgeous lakeside pitches too. This is an absolute gem of a campsite and an amazing base to explore the surrounding area. If camping is not for you – Glamping is also available here too.

Llyn Gwynant Facilities
The facilities are basic but absolutely fine and the campsite has a well maintained wash block with showers and toilets. There is a laundry room with two washers if you need to do some washing during your stay (Currently £4 per wash) and dryers too. There is an area for washing up.
You can head to one of the food outlets (Blas yr Allt and Gwynant Pizzas) – we tried the pizzas and they are amazing!!!!! You can also purchase firewood etc. There is a small campsite shop beside the reception that sells a few bits and bobs that you may have forgotten.
Boat hire is also available. If you have your own boat – you can bring a small boat and launch it in the lake at no charge.
I love that there is recycling bins in the carpar of the campsite. Separating paper, plastic, cans and glass, into the special bins is a condition of camping at Llyn Gwynant.
Is Llyn Gwynant dog friendly?
This campsite welcomes dogs but they must be kept on a lead. There is a dog walking area just off the camping fields where dogs can be let off the lead and cleaning up is not required.
Does Llyn Gwynant Campsite allow campfires?
Campfires are allowed on the campsite, but the wood has to be purchased from the campsite and you have to use on of the available steel firepits dotted around the campsite to protect the grass.

Our camping pitch – llyn Gwynant campsite review
We booked our stay here during the covid pandemic and had to reschedule, the campsite were absolutely amazing about it too. We stayed on our lakeside pitch (pitch 5) and I have to say I thought I had won the lottery!
The pitch was a great size and had EHU too.
What a pitch!!!! And after a day out on the paddleboard – we got to experience the most incredible sunset over the lake too – with a glass of wine and a campfire!! The campsite was busy but quiet and we didn’t have any problems with late night noise.
It is easy to see why this is one of our favourite campsites in North Wales.
One thing to note is that motorhomes are accepted here but unfortunately caravans are not accepted due to the roads.

Best Snowdonia Campsite – Llyn Gwynant Final thoughts
We loved out lakeside pitch and it was a perfect weekend stay and an opportunity to spend the weekend out on the water. There is plenty of family days out in North Wales and loads to do and plenty of walks from the campsite too – including the Watkin path and plenty of opportunity to swim in the lake and river.
Overall this is a lovely campsite and we had an amazing weekend. A gem of a campsite in Snowdonia family friendly and dog friendly.
Bookings are required for all campers – head over to the website for more information and to book
