Plas Weunydd hotel – Llechwedd Glamping
We are no strangers to Plas Weunydd, having stayed at Lechwedd a few years ago, at their Gold Award Winning, 5-Star Glamping Tents. The Glamping tents overlook the Llechwedd site, high in the Moorland, far away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to experience the award winning Zip World Llechwedd. You can click through here for our full Llechwedd Glamping review.
As a family of five and a dog, we love to spend our time exploring Wales, and have found some awesome family friendly campsites. If you are looking for things to do nearby with kids, you may love the Welsh Mountain Zoo, or GreenWood Family Park.
Plas Weunydd Hotel Review
Plas Weunydd is the historic home of the Greaves family who once owned the Llechwedd slate mine at Blaenau Ffestiniog from the mid-19th century. It is now a 24 bed luxury boutique hotel and offers a luxurious getaway for people wanting to explore Snowdonia and beyond.
The hotel is both family friendly and dog friendly, and welcomes muddy paws and muddy adventurous little boots alike. The rooms are colourful and well designed, with local art work and large black and white photographs on the walls, providing an insight into the mining days.
Plas Weunydd Family friendly Rooms
We were allocated a top floor attic room, with a beautiful neutral colour scheme, and slanting ceilings offering character and charm. The views to the car park extended out to the mountains beyond, and offered a calm and quiet retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of life.
The family room had a large (and extremely comfortable) double bed, a large sofa bed, ensuite bathroom fitted with a bath and shower, flat screen TV and high speed Wifi. The room was heated and also fitted with fans if required. There is tea/coffee and a kettle in the room, with complimentary bottled water & shortbreads too.
Plas Weunydd Food and Drink
A breakfast buffet is available and served from 7am to 10:30am every day. There is plenty to choose from too including a cooked full English breakfast, vegetarian options available, pastries, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit and cereals – and not forgetting the tea and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly and helpful staff who were on hand if you had an particular requirements or requests.
There is also an evening menu available every evening from 5.30pm until 8.30pm from April to October and then Fridays and Saturdays during the Winter. It is advisable to book a table in advance.
There is plenty to choose from to suit your needs including nibbles, starters, sides, mains and puddings. There are vegetarian options and there are children’s meal options too.
There are two adjoining rooms to choose from for breakfast and evening meals, and if the weather is good you can sit out on on the terrace to enjoy your meal or a drink with a view.

There are also plenty of amazing hikes and mountain biking nearby. If you wish to venture further afield and there are plenty of beaches, castles and mountains just a short drive away. You may find my post on exploring the Llyn Peninsula helpful too.
Plas Weunydd Hotel Review- Final Thoughts
We stayed for a weekend at Plas Weunydd and had an absolutely brilliant weekend. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and in all honesty nothing was too much trouble at all.
The hotel was beautifully designed, and spotlessly clean, and I loved that it welcomes families and our fur babies with open arms. The hotel is unbelievably dog friendly. There were little jars with dog biscuits dotted about, and plenty of dog bowls of water and plenty of dog friendly spaces. Happy, muddy children and muddy dogs are all catered for here!
The staff, service and our stay was excellent. If you are looking for a luxury boutique hotel, in a peaceful; setting in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then this hotel is definitely for you. We will definitely be back!
