Calendar Girls The Musical UK Tour Review
That’s right. The girls…the sunflowers and those iced buns are back!
The musical tells the true story of a group of ordinary ladies from a Women’s Institute in Yorkshire, who achieved something extraordinary.
The story of the Calendar Girls began in 1998 when John Baker, husband of Angela Baker, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. Sadly, John passed away after just a few months of treatment, but in the months following their loss, Angela and her friends set about creating the now infamous calendar as something for Angela to focus on and, also, to prove John wrong – he said they’d never do it!
Through the sale of calendars, the group aimed to raise enough to buy a new sofa for the hospital where John was treated.

Calendar Girls Musical: Regent Theatre – Final Thoughts
Now I will be honest… I have never seen the film Calendar Girls, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect.
What a beautiful show!
Calendar girls The musical features a star studded cast, and is a heartwarming story of grief, friendship and connection. The cast are incredibly talented and their friendship and connection on stage was evident.
The ‘calendar shoot’ scenes are hilarious, yet empowering, and very tastefully done. There are so many heart warming, emotional and hilarious moments throughout the show. Amy Robbins who played Chris was incredibly charismatic and funny.
I absolutely loved the show. It is a true story of a group of ladies from a Women’s Institute raising millions of pounds for charity. For me, Calendar Girls highlighted, friendship, determination, and optimism even in the darkest of situations, and is proof that anything is possible!
