If you are looking for a gorgeous family run campsite on the Isle of Barra, Outer Hebrides when Croft No 2 campsite is one to remember. This small campsite is just a short stroll to the beach offering a perfect base to explore the Isle of Barra.
Here is our review of the Croft No 2 campsite, a gorgeous small family run campsite on the Isle of Barra, where we stayed during our 10 day Outer Hebrides road trip in our camper van, and our pick of one of the BEST campsites in Scotland.

Croft no 2 Campsite, Isle of Barra
We stayed here as part of our Outer Hebrides road trip during May half term and we stayed at this gorgeous Barra campsite for three nights in total. We often look for campsites with access to water for paddleboardig or swimming, and this one is definitely one of our favourites.
Our first night of our road trip we stayed at North Ledaig campsite near Oban close to the Oban ferry terminal ( Click here for our full North Ledaig Campsite review). We arrived at the campsite at about 7pm after our ferry from Oban To Castlebay. The ferry from Oban to Castlebay takes around 5 hours in total.
The campsite is well signposted and fairly easy to find and we were greeted by the owner’s son who directed us to our grass pitch with electric hook up and a stunning sea view.
What a gem!
The campsite is located just 100m from the beach, and you can access the beach through the gate.

Barra Campsite Facilities
- Electric Hook up available
- Toilet and shower block
- Grass pitches with EHU
- Dish washing and storage area with indoor and outdoor drying.
- Dogs welcome
I had absolutely no phone signal during our stay here so do make sure you have downloaded your maps before you go, and have an idea of where you want to travel, supermarkets and places to eat.
There is a gorgeous honesty box just down from the campsite called the croft kitchen honesty box, Barra Outer Hebrides and this sells fresh eggs and home made baking daily.
If you need to shop for food and drink, there is a large Co-op in Castlebay that sells all the staples and is open until 10pm (Isle Of Barra, Na h-Eileanan, Castlebay, HS9 5XD)

Final thoughts
The campsite is a small campsite that is quiet and peaceful with good basic facilities and all you need for your stay. We loved the location with direct access to the beach, and it never felt full or busy. There is one toilet and one shower that we rarely had to wait for, and I loved the exclusive quiet vibe that often comes with a small family run campsite. We couldn’t fault this campsite and it offered a great base to explore Barra and Vatersay and it was an amazing start to our Outer Hebrides road trip. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
About us -vanlife with kids
We are a family of five who love nothing more than travelling around in our VWT5 converted camper van. We often get asked how we all manage to sleep in a VWT5. I won’t lie, space can be tight, but we have had our camper van for years and have found many clever camper van storage ideas (we don’t leave home without our packing cubes to organise all our clothes (read why we love packing cubes here!)
We also find making a camper packing list helps so we remember all of the campervan essentials, such as camping chairs, camping stoves, and clothes.
Vanlife with kids is not always easy…And then we decided to add in vanlife with a dog! But honestly we love it so much. We love the freedom that it brings, and it gives us the opportunity to collect memories and spend quality time together outdoors.
I hope that you find this website helpful, it is packed with out favourite campsites in the UK, including our top campsites with direct access to water and the best campsites with a Sea view.
