Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite Review Snowdonia

If you are looking for a unique camping experience in Snowdonia, Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite is a family friendly campsite nestled at the foot of the rugged Rhinog mountain range yet just a couple of miles from golden sandy beaches. Here is our Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite review.

Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite review

We love nothing more than exploring North Wales in our converted VW T5. As a family of five with three children in a T5 I love the life that vanlife offers. Time spent outdoors, days spent exploring and the freedom of visiting new places at the drop of a hat.

We often look for the best campsites for paddleboarding in the UK that are situated close to water, so that we can wild swim, jump on the SUP, or kayak with ease and without always having to move the camper van. Nantcol waterfalls campsite is just metres from the river and waterfalls is a spectacular location allowing camper vans, motorhomes, caravans and tents. Electric hook up is available. If glamping is your thing there are also glamping pods or bell tents available.

You can hear the lovely therapeutic sounds of the waters from wherever you pitch up. There are walks for miles. The kids (and the adults) can enjoy the close proximity of the river. It really is such a lovely campsite.

Rhaeadr Nantcol waterfall campsite facilities

The facilities are great here. The wash block is really modern and absolutely spotless. There are toilets, disabled facilities, showers, separate washrooms, a dishwashing area, laundrette and chemical waste disposal point.

One thing to note is the showers require a shower card. These can be purchased from reception and one card is 50p for five minutes.

The reception sells a few basic essentials just incase you have forgotten anything and there is also pizza van on specified nights on-site. Delicious ice cream (and doggie ice-cream) is available to purchase too. You can charge your mobile phone at reception if needed.

There is weak phone signal but if you walk up to the waterfalls you may have some 3G depending on your provider! Wi-Fi is available on site to purchase for 1 device per code. This is currently £3 for 24hrs, £7.50 for 3 days or £10 for 7 days (this is for 1 device). We loved the opportunity to unplug during our stay, really there is nothing better, less time scrolling and more time living!

The staff here are really friendly. The reception is open between 9am and 9pm during the peak times. What I will say is nothing is too much trouble. We altered our booking dates and we had great communication, at all times from the team.

Is Nantcol waterfall campsite dog friendly?

Dogs are welcome here but must be kept on a lead at all times due to the local sheep. There are loads of dog walks nearby and of course dog friendly beaches within a couple miles to let them run off the lead. Wilf also liked the occasional dip in the river to cool down whilst on a long lead.

Camping in Snowdonia – Nantcol Waterfalls campsite final thoughts

What an absolute gem of a campsite. I think this has been one of our favourite campsites so far. We loved the direct access to the waterfalls and river. The campsite was quiet during our stay, absolutely spotless and well maintained. Shell Island, Harlech and Barmouth are all nearby if you decide to head out to explore.

One thing to mention is the narrow road that brings you here. Well it is a bit of a mission in a campervan. It wasn’t my favourite drive in the world – breathtaking scenery but quite a mission if you have to reverse. Totally worth it however for the gorgeous campsite, breathtaking scenery and superb location.

We will most definitely be back to Nantcol campsite with our campervan. What a wonderful stay we had here!

One last thing – The Victoria Inn just down the lane is also a gem if you fancy a night off cooking.
